  • Pawcatuck starts with no-hitter

    EAST LYME — Pawcatuck’s Elaina Previty pitched a four-inning no-hitter as the Pawcatuck 9-10 Little League softball All-Stars opened the District 10 tournament with a 12-1 win against Salem/Bozrah Wednesday night.

    Previty finished with seven strikeouts.

    Maggie Constantine tripled, singled and drove in two runs for Pawcatuck.

    Previty and Smith also contributed a single each.

    North Stonington 9-10s 4

    EAST LYME — North Stonington’s 9-10 All-Star softball team dropped its opener in Pool B play of the District 10 tournament Wednesday at Veterans Field.

    The game ended with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning due to the mercy rule. New London scored nine times in that frame.

    North Stonington held a 2-0 lead after one complete inning and was ahead 4 -2 after two innings. New London took a 5-4 lead by plating three runs in the bottom of the third and never trailed again.

    Riley Sweet had a pair of singles for North Stonington and scored two runs. North Stonington had four base hits total and did not strike out a single time.

    Abby Amato singled and scored a run and Katelyn Melinosky hit one single and scored one run.

    Amato pitched 3-2⁄3 innings for North Stonington and struck out nine New London batters.
