MIDDLETOWN — John Moody, Collin Esquirol and Alex Orf of Stonington High helped the Ledyard/Stonington co-op boys’ swim team turn in its best performance at the Class L championships Wednesday night at Wesleyan University.
The three combined with Steven Boyd of Ledyard for a 13th-place finish in the meet’s final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
L/S was seeded 13th after Saturday’s qualifying but its time was 3 minutes, 38.87 seconds — down from the 3:42.33 they swam in qualifying.
L/S finished 16th of 23 teams with 88 points — the most since the 2008 team scored 93 in the Class LL meet.
Pomperaug on the Class L title with 818½ points. There were not any ECC teams in the meet.
Esquirol and Moody and better finishes in their individual events.
Esquirol finished 20th in the 100 freestyle (52.71) having come into the meet seeded 24th. Moody was 22nd in the 100 backstroke (1:01.63), up two notches from the end of qualifying.
L/S also took 13th in the 200 free relay. Orf swam one of the legs and the team’s time was 1:38.95, a slight improvement.
L/S finished 15th in the meet-opening 200 medley relay, swimming 1:52.64. Moody and Esquirol each swam a leg.
