Local briefs: Solar receives honor


High school

Stonington High’s Paulla Solar was honored by the CIAC before Saturday’s state championships basketball games at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville. Solar received a merit award from the CIAC for her significant contributions to high school basketball in Connecticut. Solar has won more than 325 games during her career at Stonington including two state championships. She is also a member of the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She worked as a teacher at Stonington for 35 years.
