Wheeler captures title

LISBON, Conn. — Wheeler Middle scored two goals in the second half beat Lisbon Central School 4-3 for the Southeastern Connecticut Middle School League boys’ soccer championship Friday.

Ryan Condon scored the go-ahead goal about five minutes into the second half. Nate Cherenzia played a short pass off a corner kick to Condon. He then chipped it over the Lisbon goalie to make it 3-2.

Seth Jones gave Wheeler (11-2-1) a two-goal lead when the Lisbon keeper deflected a shot by Chris Orr.

Lisbon (11-1) made it 4-3 later in the second half. But Wheeler backs Cody Johnson, Michael Warren, Bowen Baker and Conner Melinosky controlled the game after that.

Wheeler keeper Kody Lewis made 10 saves. Cherenzia and also Orr scored in the first half.
