  • Wheeler roundup: Bacon qualifies for Class M playoffs; Muller finishes lacrosse career

    NORTH STONINGTON — Sam Seymour scored five goals and assisted five others and Bacon Academy qualified for the Class M girls’ lacrosse state tournament Friday with an 18-9 victory

    Seymour scored four goals and had three assists in the first half of the out-of-division game between ECC schools, which ended with Bacon in front 9-3.

    Jess Muller scored six goals for Wheeler (0-15) in the final game her career. She leaves the program as the third all-time scorer. Muller scored 130. Morgan Breidinger (class of 2009) scored 184 and Ashley Iorio, who graduated two years ago, netted 162.

    Junior Rachel Luce scored two goals for the Lions and junior Madison Jones had one. Wheeler did not have any assists in the game.

    Wheeler senior Carolyn Pabst made 19 saves and her counterpart, Caroline Lovering, made 14. The ECC-Large Bobcats outshot the Lions 37-23.

    BASEBALL

    Game postponed

    NORTH STONINGTON — Wheeler’s nonleague baseball game against Parish Hill never happened due to an apprarent mixup with the umpires.

    Wheeler coach Charles Roark said the game likely will be played at Parish Hill on Wednesay or Thursday as part of a doubleheader.

    Wheeler is scheduled to host St. Bernard for an ECC-Small game today at 11 a.m.
